Germany meets Austria
LET’S MEET FRIENDS AGAIN…
We were quite happy to be the hosts for our friends from the partner school in Austria.
Weeks ago we agreed the host families and planned a nice programme together to show them our region… That was not easy because our area is full of cultural sights. You know it’s the area were Germany’s past began.
During the days we had some nice walks because that’s one of the sports in our area – walking, climbing, trekking. Together pupils went to school and looked at the differences and similarities in schools in our countries and even in the languages we speak.
Michaelstein Monastery
It’s one of the places we had a look at. It’s a museum for musical instruments and they have old monastery gardens.
We went back in time and experienced a day in a life of a normal monk … very hard. We prefer school days in 2010.
Thale – a place full of myths and old legends
The main river in the Harz mountains is the river Bode. There is a big impressive valley which is called the Grand Canyon of Germany - it’s “Bodetal”. It’s nice for walks and for a trip into the world of the old Germanic myths. While walking we learned about Sleipnir – the horse with eight legs or heard about Asgard and all the old gods that people used to believe in during the old days. Well, we learned about traditions like Walpurgis and now know why the Harz Mountains have lots of witches in the souvenir shops.
Later we enjoyed modern life and tried bob-sleighing at Harzbob. It´s a modern sport here... Did you know that Tatjana Hüfner, Olympic gold medal winner in bob-sleighing, comes from our town Blankenburg?
Blogging
During the meetings we had a dairy… and learned how blogging works and well about safety on the net.
